Video Game violence: while the political Eye of Sauron has been on our industry for a while, those of us who know history know that there’s always the whipping boy: Comics in the 1940s, films, TV in the 1950s, cartoons in the 80s and 90s and such dastardly awful fucking things like Catcher in the Rye.
Those of us who play games know that there is no link between game violence and real violence. Those of us who make them, while we’ll sheepishly admit that violence sells and that it is a mainstay in our industry (like Action films are in the film industry) know that there is no link.
Honestly, I could go on on a tirade about this…but I think Penn & Teller have acutely summarized it in the following video. And before you dismiss it know that unlike CBC and their weak, single-sided argument that there is a link, know that Penn & Teller, in their curse-laden, humored way, give both sides an opportunity to argue their sides.
Watch it (there are 3 parts), share it, and smarten the fuck up.
